Building a Water Heating Solar Panel.wmv
Просмотров 4,3 млн12 лет назад
READ IMPORTANT UPDATE BELOW: I built a solar water heating system. In this video I show you how I built the water heating solar panels. My current system of twenty panels have the capability to collect 500,000 BTU per sunny day. typically I collect about 300,000 BTU, Still that is enough to easily heat our house for a day The panels cost about $450 to $500 each to build. Still that is much chee...

Thank you everyone who has watched my videos. We are moving from Hong Kong in a few days and I wanted to say goodbye to all my friends out there. If I can get a fast internet connection, I will try to upload a video in a few months on how my new life is going.
All About Hong Kong 2008 Part 2 of 2

The DVD version of this video will be given to ex-pats coming to Hong Kong from the states, to give them a quick overview of what Hong Kong is like. This introduction video is 17 minutes long, and will be followed by a few of the longer video pieces such as the Symphony of Lights. This is a cut down version of my previous videos about Hong Kong.

Victoria Falls - Zimbabwe

We spent a couple days in Zimbabwe (September 2007)and stopped to see Victoria Falls. Impressive set of falls spans 1700 meters and drops about 100 meters into a gorge. The spray soaked us, and made it hard to get video without the lens getting wet.
The Birds of Botswana

We saw over 70 types of birds in Botswana on our 10 day trip. I cut the birds from tape, and simply spliced them together for the birders out there who may want to see what we came across. As a cat, I like birds, but we did not go to see birds.

Lions Eat A Dead Elephant - Botswana Africa

Dead animals stink, dead elephants stink proportionally worse. In Savute Botswana the land is so dry elephants walk a long way to get to water. They become weak and a group of lions will take one down. This is a slightly edited version from the tape that still has all the annoying camera clicks
Hyena Drags a Dead Lion - Botswana Africa
Просмотров 1,6 млн16 лет назад
Our guide had never seen a Hyena drag a dead lion before. We watched this for several minutes. This video is nearly uncut. It still has all the camera clicks in it. The trip was in Sep 2007, and there have been many comments on Flickr about the photo of this event, so I pulled out the old tapes and made this for you.
Mai Po Nature Reserve - Hong Kong

A wetlands area, located on the south side of the Shenzhen river between Hong Kong and mainland China, was designated as an important natural habitat for migratory birds over 30 years ago. Over 300 bird species can be found in the reserve through out the year. The reserve is comploed of mudflats, ponds, mangroves, and reedbeds where there was once a shrimp farm.

25k BTUs is only 7.3 kWh. If the sunlight strikes the ground with 1kW per M^2 (10.7 sq ft) and you have 32 sq ft then you should be getting closer to 3 kW. If we call it 40% efficient, then 1.2kW and call it 6 hours of good sun in the summer. That's about your stated 7.3 kWh.

I was a little concerned about the mixed reviews, but I used it last year and hooked it up again this year and it was great ruclips.net/user/postUgkx-izdrK3eF-HMvjzeBOxToD6Fx-4ulJUh . I couldn't get my 10' Intex pool above 76 degrees the year prior and last year I got it to 90 and had to put ice in it. This worked so well! I have just 1 mat hooked up to a 1,000 GPH Intex pump and it makes a significant reduction in the flow rate coming back into the pool, but that is to be expected with how far the water has to travel through the mat.

Lovely piece of work ... As you heated the thin copper sheet to solder it to the tubing & it oxidised to black .., think I would have ignored the painting & just " washed " over the back of the sheet with the blow torch to ensure all was oxidised black ...

  • @chrisdaniel1339
    @chrisdaniel1339 Год назад

I say skip the soldered joints as much as possible, skip the headers and the tiny diameter tube and use 1/2" OD soft copper coil in 100 foot rolls then you only have one solder joint between each 100' roll and one at each end to connection to a threaded connection and you have one long copper tube with only one joint and ultra low chances of leaks. No cutting individual tube all you need to do is straighten the tubing and use a hand pipe bender to quickly and easily form 90 deg corners. In the video he did 21 pieces 3/8" OD @ 90" long = 157.5" so using 200 feet of 1/2" soft copper is longer and larger in diameter giving much more surface area for heat transfer. Also the side of the copper transfer sheet with the tubes soldered to it should have the tubes facing the sun as each 3/8" tube is bathed in radiant energy(higher surface area in the sunlight) in addition to the copper sheet from the sun vs the way it was done in the video where a very small point (round tube sitting on flat sheet) where there is direct heat transfer through the soldered connection.

Try making connections in series. In refrigeration we use pressurized gases . So doesn't make different in parallel tubing but in solar heating it makes lots of difference because we use principles of hot water lighter than cold water and always needs to be extracted from top only.

I have a lot of heat in the attic from the corrugated sheeting on the house because there are few splits placed only for mechanical resistance and a lot of heat is transferred from the sheeting to the attic.. Even in winter when there is a little sun, it heats up up in the attic and I didn't know how to transfer heat from top to bottom. A solution for the summer can only be the following. Copper pipes can be installed through the grids of the sheet metal on the house, through which the water may circulate at some distance from the sheet metal on the roof. On the entire surface of the roof, a lot of caloric energy is lost and transferred to the attic. It can be transferred to a heat engine or a steam engine that produces free electricity and hot water only in summer. In winter, it is more complicated to recover heat because the water freezes. Used possibly antifreeze ..... The electrovoltaic panels are fragile, expensive and with a .......larger hail.......it certainly won't last.....Anyway, I don't have enough money for something like that. There are many houses and fences with corrugated iron dissipates heat from the sun, heat that can be used... With the 0.5 mm sheet we have a large transfer of heat in the attic. It is logical that with the 0.2 mm sheet the yield should be higher... They can be oriented according to sun using electronic systems for maximum yield.

This plant brings so many of my childhood memories back in Guatemala. When my dad first showed this plant to us he said, "wanna see a magic trick?" and he proceded to touch it while saying "muévete, muévete" -which translates to "move, move" in english-. My brother and I were mesmerized by the power my dad had over plants hahah (he´s an agricultural engineer, which just made so much sense haha). Even now when I see this plant, I´ve to say "muévete, muévete" to feel like I have permission to touch it. <3.
